May be your Mother board is not supporting the RAM!
Or check your old RAMs frequency(Hz) [it is printed on the ram itself with] with the new RAM if it is different you will have bring the same Hz as your old one.

Good Luck!

the ddr2 667 should actually work fine for you..even i got a board that supports only ddr2 400/533 but i'm using both 533 and 667 sticks together and i have no problem.the thing is mother board will automatically clock down the ram speed to the lowest speed module, that is 533 in this case if the ram speed is higher.so something else should be wrong with your machine.Try removing the memory modules, clean it up properly using some brush and also clean the slots.remove the bios battery and let it reset.then replace and try booting.this should work fnie as even i have experienced lot of similar issues and this should be a good solution.

That new ddr2-667 should work even if motherboard supports only ddr2-533. BIOS will just read the new RAM's SPD info and automatically run it at ddr2-533 settings.

Now, your ddr2 slots have been empty and unused for sometime. It may have accumulated some dust. With PC unplugged, remove that new ddr2-667. Clean the slot with a small paint brush then reseat the new RAM module thrice to ensure proper contact with all the pins.

If problem still persists, there is the possibility of incompatibility with your motherboard, especially some high performance RAM that requires a higher voltage.

You basically answered your question yourself when you said "DDR2 400 or DDR2 533". You bought ram your motherboard won't support. That doesn't mean you cant run it but you probably have to go into bios and get rid of the boards "configure by SPD" automatic settings and configure the ram yourself. I suggest you go to your motherboards website. They usually have forums in support for each board.
Hopefully you can see if anyones successful running 667 on that board and, if so, what settings they used in the bios to do it. Also see if there are any bios updates for 667. althou bios updates are usually for newer cpus sometimes they're for ram compatibility too. You should be able to clock your ram down to 533 in bios too. Every day there are "experts" here saying "sure you can put ram faster than what your board supports in. Your board will automatically clock it down"
That's bogus advice because its not always true. It depends on the board itself. I always just get the fastest ram the board will support then overclock the p*** out of it.
