Ask your friend if he's ever actually WATCHED a game.
When he says yes, ask him how many times the announcers used the term "points" instead of "runs".
In other words, you're right, he's wrong.

Nobody with any knowledge of the game would say points. At least never when referring to the score. The only time points would be used is in discussing stats, such as "he hit 40 points lower this year" or "his OBP is 20 points higher than his career avg.".

He's a tool, and not worth conversing baseball with.
Runs.
Points are in the lesser sports, where they are scored in multiples, or in ocqui where they are awarded to players who didn't even score a goal.
Runs score one at a time. Even on a grand slam, four men have to touch home.

Runs
In order to score a run, a runner must touch all 4 bases and cross all four basepaths, so the scorer draws a complete diamond and, usually, fills it in. By filling it in, it's easier to see the runs scored.
When scoring a baseball game,
you never use the term point(s).

you score with runs...but if there were two teams tied with each other for the playoffs, then you would compare runs hits runs scored, and all of that would add up to points to see who moves on and who doesn't. its kind of like the world cup of soccer; you win the game by your goals but you have to beat the other teams with your points.

Baseball uses "runs" or "scores," not points.
