When a course list comes out and the instructor's name is put as "staff," it means that the teacher teaching the course is not finalized yet right?

Is it usually a good idea to take a course taught by a "staff" not knowing who will teach it?

No it's not better to take by staff because then you don't know what kind of monster you might end up with. Go to www.ratemyprofessors.com and then choose your school. From there go and check out the teachers that are available for that course and pick the best one for you.

Staff means that no specific instructor has been set and it could end up being anyone. Once they have an instructor set up with that class then they should update the site to add the teachers name.

Yes, that is what it means. Whether that is a good idea depends on who else is teaching the course. If the other individual is someone known to be a bad teacher, then "staff" may be a good bet. If the other instructor(s) is good, then why risk taking an unknown?

That's what it means. They haven't decided yet. If it's a class that gets full really quickly, I would definitely register and keep checking it before the first day of class. You can always drop the class if you don't want it or don't like the professor.
This last semester, I waited until they posted the names and the day they did, almost all the courses were already closed. I had to take the teacher I have now.

Definitely use ratemyprofessor.com!

It's not always a bad thing. And for something like an intro course it actually matters very little since these type of courses are usually textbook-driven anyways regardless of who teaches it. I'm usually very cautious about ratings sites anyway, they tend to celebrate professors who give out A's like candy and flame away professors who actually make you study to earn an A.

yes, it means that they have not decided who will teach the class yet. As to whether or not you should take it, it depends, if you looking for a certain teacher then I would wait, but if you don't care then take it.

It means that no teacher has been assigned or worse yet, your teacher is a grad student with little or no experience.
