Omar Vizquel is the most visually impressive fielder I have ever seen. Ozzie Smith was awesome, Dave Concepcion was impressive, there have been a lot of good shortstops...but Omar is the best. Smith made incredible plays, but Vizquel to this day turns difficult plays with nonchallance.

Vizquel, Ozzy, Concepcion. You name it. They're are all fantasic and exciting shortstops. I think a name thats going to go on that list one day is Troy Tulowitzki. This kid could end winning the gold glove in his rookie year (or Omar). He still has a lot to learn and is so skilled with the ball. He can only hit the ball (even though this has nothing to do with subject), unlike the great names listed above.

Did you know that not one shortstop ever won a Gold Glove Award from both the American League and National League until Omar Vizquel accomplished the feat in 2005?

Ozzie Smith and Omar Vizquel, most exciting SS's that i've ever seen. Nobody in the game played a better defensive SS than those 2 ....... and it isn't even close

Omar is special. As fluid today as when he started with Seattle over 20 years ago. Hall of Famer first ballot easy.
Mark Belanger was the best defensive shortstop for many years on the Orioles. No bat, but wow what a glove! Brooks Robinson and him helped make the O's the highest winning percentage of all teams in all sports during their run. His replacement was great too. Set MLB fielding percentage and fewest error records = Cal Ripken Jr. Cals replacement broke his records = Mike Bordick
Dave Concepcion was spectacular on the Big Red Machine in Cinncy.
Gary Templeton was awesome for a few years, but the guy he was traded for ( Padres thought they were stealing from the Cardinals : whoops...they was way wrong ) was the most exciting shortstop I ever saw:
The Wizard Ozzie Smith
he made his share of barehands too

Cal Ripken was the most exciting all around SS to ever watch, but hands down defensively noone is even close at all to Ozzie Smith, Mr Wizard of Oz-zie Smith is hands down best defensive player in history of MLB, maybe best ever defensive player in history of sports with his amazing plays he made that changed the game of baseball defensively alot, like plays Jeter and others make today look so easy, just like how Barry Sanders when he started juking and deking and spinning around people, everyone was amazed by that, and now every RB, QB and WR all do that every game, and noone even comes close to Ozzie Smith as best and most exciting SS ever, it was also like watching the Harlem Globetrotters watching his defensive plays on the field every day

I would say Omar also. I am an Indians fan and I appreciated all his amazing catches grabs, throws and dps turned. He was really the glue that held that team together thru their glory yrs. Ozzie was great also and it isnt a slight to him picking Omar. I only hope that Visquel has enough offensive stats to supplement his great defensive abilities and that the HOF voters recognize his skills when his time comes up
