I am on a pretty tight budget, and am looking for some ideas on Christmas gifts for my 3 year old son. I would love to buy him one of those kids workbenches with the tools and pieces they can make stuff with, but I dont think its in my budget unfortunately. Other than playdough, building blocks, and books...Do you have any ideas?

When my son was little he liked cars and trucks, games we could play together..I just got my friends 3 yr old leap frog dominoes you can play them about 6 different ways and it's 2 player.crayons and color books...maybe try freecycle.org in your area this is the time of year when parents start clearing out..And hey Christmas is not about how much money you spend or don't spend.I have 3 kids (11,16,18) they went through stuff fast when they were little they lose interest in toys and they sit on the shelves or the toy box. I use freecycle to find new homes for lonely toys still..I also pass on all or most of my kids cloths too..they grow so fast they do not get warn out..Why throw away when some other little person would love it?

A wooden train set with 4-6 pieces, wooden puzzles, Duplos, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, picture puzzles with 20-25 pieces, toy lawn equipment (rake, spade, hoe, hand digger), plastic pail, a good quality nerf ball, a set of small plastic farm animals with fences, a set of Hot Wheels metal cars, four puppets--lots can be found at 99 cent and Dollar Tree type stores!

Maybe some clothes. You could get some cute clothes from JCPenny's. Or give him a stuffed animal, or a blanket. Little kids always enjoy that. Or, a movie, or books. Kids that age are starting to read. Get him Dr. Sucess books, or any first reader books.

He really wont remember if he got a hundred toys or just three really great ones. Get something like little trains that connect, car to run on the floor or a rug that has the tracks on it for him to play with. You are his mommy, and at three that's all that counts!

Both my boys love hot wheels!! They are only a dollar, you can wrap them seperately, and they never get tired of opening them. I would also consider that crayola doodle pad (I think it's crayola anyway)....the one with the water pen so they can't color on anything but the pad. My kids have it and they have a lot of fun with it.

My son loves the Geo Trax trains sets... for about $ 50 you can get a few sets for a small track. Try Target or Costco. Trains run 5.99 - 15.99 or so. Then you need the Track Packs too. About $ 19.99 for that.
