My daughter just turned 8 months on the 3rd and has been crawling for 1 month. She has just lately gotten used to it properly and is crawling everywhere. She can go anywhere, we have no stairs or anything so she is safe and isnt out of my site i am alway chasing her around. So my question is do you put your baby in a playpen or cot?? I dont think i could do it it doesnt seem to be enough room. But chasing her is driving me nuts so what do you do?

I babyproofed the house. I put plugs in the outlets, hid all electrical cords, and put baby gates over the kitchen and the hallway that leads to the bathroom. Basically, I made sure he didn't have access to anything that could harm him, so I didn't need to constantly chase him.

When my daughter was crawling, I purchased TWO Superyard XT's (the two will connect without a hitch). This provided more than 50 square feet of crawling room. Although it's illustrated in a circle, it will actually bend around corners, tables, etc. It kept her very safe, within my view, and I could move it reasonably easily to another part of the house or even outdoors. (They also make a sunshade if you use it outdoors and an organizer.)

Later, we used it to keep her (and the pets) from the Christmas tree (we surrounded the tree), as a puppy pen, etc. She's in her 20's now and we STILL find uses for it!

By the way, there is a lot of evidence showing the importance of crawling vs walking too quickly or early. Crawling develops the part of the brain required for reading well! So as exhausted as you are, keep her crawling as long as possible.

The links I've provided show various places that sell the Superyard and accessories.

Good luck!

I just babyproofed and let my daughter explore--it's important for them to do so. I checked on her if I didn't hear anything for a few minutes (silence is not a good thing, lol) and gated off questionable parts of the house. Playpens are fairly cruel at this age.

...also remember to keep the bathroom door closed, or install a toilet lock.
If the baby has access to the kitchen you want to install locks in the cabinets as well. At least those that contain cleaners and glass or anything that can harm her.
Any furniture that is not attached to the walls and can tumble on top of her needs to be secured (they sell straps for this).
Get on your knees, crawl around and see for yourself what can be trouble from that perspective :-)
...remember that some house plants are poisonous

Go to Target or store like that and get some Baby gates. They go in the doorways and will prevent her from going into rooms that have a smaller doorway. If that doesn't help, look for ones that span a bigger doorway. Good Luck !

every mom needs a break from chasing the baby around the house, or constantly peeking around the corner, to make sure baby is safe while cooking dinner. i had 2 sons, one would play with old pots, and pans with wooden spoon, when i cooked, done dishes, etc in the kitchen. my other son was more of a curious one, so i had to put him in a play pen with toys, etc, close to the kitchen / dinning room for me to be able to get dinner, etc done. give yourself a break. as long as you aren't napping with a baby awake in a play pen, it's safe. at the age of one, we bought jr beds, and put their crib mattress in it, with side rails to prvent falls. we put a sturdy baby gate in the bed room door jam to prevent silent escapes while we were sleeping. some times you can't always hear a baby monitor.

baby-proof.
then check all through the house each & every time you put your baby down because they will find everything! scraps of paper-a pea from last nights dinner-you name it!
of course they should never be left unattended for long-keep looking in on them.
