I had to pick a monologue I could "identify with" for an acting class. Well, I picked one where a serial killer talks about how it feels to commit murder and rape and I do plan to read this to my class.

If you were those students, how would you react?

*Note, I'm female, 20. The killer is an adult male.

And, no, I've never killed. I like the piece because this fictional killer (it's from a story) talks poetically, and it allows the listeners to get another point of view.

If anyone's interested, this is the monologue.

I have always liked reading about
the minds of serial killers. I think it's
because MOST of us would never commit
such a horrible crime and we can't imagine
that there are real people out there that have
those urges and desires. I don't think it's
creepy...I think that subject would be interesting!

Well, actually, it is just a tad creepy. On the other hand, it is novel that you crossed gender and generation. However, it sounds as though you like this choice primarily for those reasons and because you find his monologue intense and fascinating. While this is a truly interesting choice, it can't necessarily be said that it fits the assignment as you don't really "identify" with the character.

You might see if you can, at least, find a monologue by executed serial killer Aileen Wuornos. See the link below.

Sounds like you might make a good profiler some day... you seem to have the interest and to be ready to get in the killer's head, so to speak.
If I were in your class, assuming they are in your age group, I would be fascinated.
Some may have an opposite reaction, though-- y'never know.
Good luck on the reading.

I do not know about rape but I can truly say that I have nothing but murder in my heart for those gophers in my yard. AS a student, with all this crap in the schools I would be uncomfortable at the least.

I am not sure how you 'identify with' this peice, but it sounds strong and could be a really good peice if done well.

If i was one of the students and it was done well i would most likely be sitting there in awe with shivers going down my spine.
It's a big one but good luck with it :)

Right on! Think out of the box. I like that.

I don't think that it has anything to do with you personally. It's a character study.
