And... please don't say quit the band because last time I tried, it wasn't a pretty situation... The boss is a pretty serious guy, if you know what I mean.

My boss isn't part of the band, he's just not someone you want to have a problem with.

Use your people skills. Talk with him. See if you can come up with a compromise - some of his songs and some of your songs. I'll bet that could resolve part of your frustration if you try to work out your differences in a friendly, respectful manner.

Kick "the boss" out of the band and become the new boss.
That's what happened in my band & it's worked out great. The old boss was a real douchebag.
