I can never sleep at night.. even when I'm tired. It's not that i dont want to go to sleep, i just cant at night untill about 3, 4, or 5 am... sometimes i only get 3 hours of sleep a night and i still stay up to these late hours the next night. I can lay in bed for hours without falling asleep. or sometims ill stare at a poster for hours and im so bored. then, the annoying thing is that once i do fall asleep, its extremly hard for me to wake up. I've asked people how i can make it easier to wake up at the times i need to and they say " go to bed earlier" but they dont understand that no matter what time i "go to bed" i dont actually fall asleep untill 3, 4 or 5 am. whats wrong with me? is there anything i can do?? sleeping pills dont work either i've tried them.. what can i do im tired of this...

You probably have insomnia or difficulty in falling asleep.

Try any of these methods:

Read a book, preferably a boring one that makes you sleep, listen to classical music, drink a warm glass of milk, take a hot shower before going to sleep, put on some perfume or cologne on your pajamas or whatever clothes your wearing for sleep, eat something sweet or heavy in the stomach for dinner. (High glucose content in your blood makes you feel sleepy or drowsy.) Or write a diary or a journal. You are probably thinking too much, or something is bothering you. You just need to relax.

Or take Hydroxyzine 10 mg 1 tablet at bedtime. Go see a doctor for your insomnia.

Hope this helps.

Force yourself to wake up at the same time each morning, no matter how you feel. No naps!

At night, go to bed at a certain time, 8 hours before you'll get up. Spend 15 minutes in bed. If you don't fall asleep, get out of bed & do something else, quiet (like reading or quiet music) for about 30 minutes. Do this over & over until you fall asleep.

Continue this until your sleep schedule is arranged.

If that doesn't work, go to a doctor or a therapist for further help!

Good luck!

I think once we build up a habit it is extremely hard to break it perhaps you could try changing you're sleep routine by small increments. I have heard that you should not lay in bed trying to go to sleep as this reinforces the laying awake you should only go when you are ready to sleep, they call it sleep hygiene. Try exorcizing through the day and some relaxation methods such as deep cycle breathing , meditation etcetera and there is a technique where you tense different muscles than relax them starting at the fingers and doing each until you reach the toes should be heaps available online, if all fails than psychology might be the only option left. Good luck and hope this helps some

Try taking melatonin; this is a hormone that your body might not be making, and if you aren't it's hard to fall asleep. You can get melatonin at the health food store. Get 1 mg tablets and try taking one the first night. You can go up 1 mg each night and see if it works (you will get a bit sleepy and want to go to bed). If it doesn't work by 6 mg this is not your problem. There are no side effects, although you shouldn't use it for more than six months.

I've been on melatonin for years, and actually fluctuate from 1-9 mg depending on what's going on with me at the time. Do give it a try, it might really help you.

Go to a psychiatrist, it might be some small underlying issue you are having inside that you dont even know about. It sounds like you have insomnia, and a physchiatrist (or a regular doctor if you prefer) could provide some stronger medication or advice for your particular problem.

Anxiety. Is there anything that is stressing you lately? When you don't let stress out through the normal channels, it manifests physically and one of the first places you'll see it is in sleep patterns.
