I want to start breeding dragon gobies but I can't find anything on the net about breeding them. I've owned them for several years and know a lot about them but just don't know anything about breeding them. Does anyone have any knowledge about this or can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Supposedly it's possible, if you have a large enough tank, are willing to do some changes in salinity, and provide live food cultures for the fry.

This link will give you some basics and points you to an article where their breedeing is discussed: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/691.htm

Almost everywhere I looked it was statedthat Dragon Gohies cannot be bred in captivity.l However, in www.petfish.net I came across the following exchange of messages. The dialogue is however incomplete for the book referred to does not appear to have been produced as requested and then it has abruptly stopped.

How do you breed dragon gobies?

From what I've read, almost nothing is known about their breeding habits. Maybe someone here has had personal experience with them.

According to a book I have (American Aquarium fishes). They need to be starved for a time and the salinity changed either up or down, and then later the salinity changed back and fed heavily. raising the fry is tough. If you are really interested I can dig up the book and post the whole thing on here.

starved? seriously? sounds like the author just got lucky.

Yes i did read on one site that i ran across that you don't feed them for a week then condition them on live foods, but it would be nice if you could find that book. Thanks I need all the info i can get

I tried to look for the book referred to in the exchange of mesages but could not lay my hands on it. You may like to look for it.
The Yahoo research for Breeding of Dragon Gobies site contained hundreds of entries but I did not find anything relevant.I presume you may have already gone through these clues.

I am sorry I could not be of much help. However, since you say you had maintain these fish in tanks for a long time it may be that there is some way these could be bred in captivity.

Best of luck.
