Yes I have many places to escape to, in addition to the religious obvious places, I like to go to the city center, (the shopping area) Alone,,, can be not to do any shopping than looking at the people living,,,I like also to be in the airports,,,I can spend a day just wandering in the airports, even I wished to live in any,,,finally one of my best places is my home and especially the kitchen, and I am not joking to say I would like to be at my home than the best resort, or Eiffel tower of Paris

edit: My dog has just died now, he was poisoned in my garden in Cairo, just because the irresponsibility of the people who are working there, Egyptians just hate life ,careless, and have aggressive attitude starting for animals till people including themselves, so I regret answering saying my home, as meant to be the one in Egypt, I would prefer to stay in the streets in even a poor African country than being in Egypt, and all I ask from Allah that I never return to there again,, it is something in my heart now and I have to say it ,,thank you

When I need time out to myself, which we all do, then I retreat to my favourite place on this earth. Up on our roof.
I guess that you have to really live in Egypt to understand the roof phenomenon, as"life on the roof" appears to be a typically Egyptian thing.
But I find when I am up there I can think more clearly and unwind by letting my emotions fly free. I may need to cry,or berate myself for some stupid thing I have done or just sit and muse on something said or unsaid .
There are times when I feel the need to talk to Allah swt, even question Him and I know that there,up on my roof I can do this without any interruption.
To make sure I have this space I have made a sign that I hang on the door that leads to the stairway of the roof retreat.
Everyone knows, even our housekeeper and the old gardener that when the sign is hanging on the door, then the roof is out of bounds to everyone even my husband.

Addit: Salah has just said to put in, that it has probably saved him a few blackeyes lol

I am gratefull to a friend of our family who gave us a cassette tape which we listened to. It teaches you how to relax. It says:

Stay calm, close your eyes, imagine that your eye lids are hanging curtains, imagine that your scalp skin covering your head is a bed sheet spreading loosely on your bed. Do not close your mouth firmly, let your lower jaw drop a little. Now from the top downwards feel every part of your body and relax it, your head, neck, shoulders, arms etc.

This needs training a little bit, after a few times you will be able to do it effectively in 15 minutes and will benefit from it, it throws away worries and tension. I do it when I am really tense.

I think of happy memories and how i imagine my future (knowing that it will be nothing like i imagine but there is no harm in fantasizing). I seem to be able to do this when someone else is driving and sat in the car but know one can talk to me or i really can't let my mind go i also do this in bed before i sleep.
