So, my OB/GYN told me to make an appointment a year from my last one after my postpartum checkup. When I called yesterday to do so, for my new pregnancy, I was informed there was a note in my file that says "Do not schedule appointments for this patient." I'm effectively banned from the clinic. A nursing student friend of mine says this is unethical (but since they are a private practice, they say they don't have to give me a reason) if they don't provide a reason.

I have no legal issues with them, my bills were always paid and they accept my insurance. My OB and I did not get along, so I was going to see the one in the office that did, but apparently, I'm banned from the entire clinic. This is the only clinic I have access too that takes my insurance.

Is there anything I can do? Specifically, is it wrong, what they're doing? And is there any way I can find out WHY they banned me? Don't they have a responsibility to offer me an explanation?

Thanks, that's what I figured. And no, I wasn't abusive. I just refused to be induced before 42 weeks and insisted on being involved in all decisions regarding my care.

No, I was not a jerk. I was respectful and polite at all my visits, I just didn't take her advice when it came to induction. I listened to all her advice and explained my decisions when she asked. I simply chose not to follow all her advice and questioned procedures I wasn't familiar with to be involved in my care. I don't see how that would make me a "jerk".

In regards to the question about not finding another clinic, as I said, this is the only clinic I have access to, according to my provider site, that takes my insurance.

Unfortunately, I think they can ban you. If it is not an emergency situation then they can refuse to see you.
But, I can understand where you are coming from. There are a lot of doctors out there who get extremely angry if someone goes against their "better" judgement.
I have been there. I know. One time when I was in the hospital I refused what I thought was an unnecessary treatment. After that, I got treated very rudely by all the doctors and nurses. Finally, I just signed myself out of the hospital and walked out.
I went to another completely different hospital where I got the treatment I deserved. Come to find out, my instinct was right. I would have been put through hell for something I didn't even have.
If I was in your situation, I would kindly ask for an explanation. But, I doubt you will get one.
Good luck!

Call and ask to speak to the person who heads the clinic. Ask for a meeting in person and explain your concerns. Do not be defensive or rude as this wont help. Be calm and polite... it will get you further.

They can ban anyone they want, but they never do unless it is for a very valid reason. Remember you might think you did nothing wrong but perception is in the eye of the beholder and they own the business so only their perceived reason counts. A lawyer can not help.

Since it is a private practice they can do what they want to. Your best bet would be to contact a lawyer who offers a free consultation and talk to them about this for free but I don't think they will tell you anything different. They do not have to tell you why you are banned since they are in private practice.

If you were abusive in any way, they can ban you and I don't believe they owe you an explanation.
Why don't you just find another clinic?
