I have a normal display crt monitor and recently it's been turning into a pink hue and I can barely read what on it. I tried adjusting the contrast and controls but it's no use. Is it my monitor or my video card? I have no clue and it's bugging me. hope someone can help thank you

Tarzan : yup been hitting it on the side and it helps. I don't think it's ok to vacuum . Doesn't it cause friction? I think they use blowers instead. Anyways thank you. i'll try everyone's suggestions.

Because it is a girlie monitor?

Sorry. I could not resist that.

I would suspect that your screen is on the way out, the electronics that control the CRT are not working properly, either because something happened in the CRT, or because the electronics are failing. The fact that whacking the monitor fixes it temporarily suggest that you have a loose connection in the electronics.

I would take it as an excuse to upgrade to a nice new flat panel.

This is almost always a cable problem. Move the monitor video cable a little bit while the computer is on (one or both ends). If the pink goes away then the cable is loose or bad. A new cable should correct the problem, if it does not, then the actual connection socket to the monitor or video card is bad. You will need to borrow a monitor that works to find out which it is.

It could be either. I had a monitor with a bad cable that would turn a yellow color more often than not. I've also seen computers with video cards and integrated video connections that have gone bad.

If you have another monitor in your house, try that and see what happens. If you don't and you know anyone who's technically inclined, ask them to check it on their monitor for you. You can also go to a computer or electronics store and buy a monitor ... if the new one looks pink, then you know it's your video card in your computer, and not the screen; you can always take the monitor back if you don't really need it.

I experience that and I thought that it was a configuration I applied.. though when I checked another monitor the color was normal.. so I got back my pink-hued sometimes green-hued monitor and replaced the cable, same thing happened.. so in the end I had to buy a new monitor... you're monitor might have fell or got hit or is just getting old :) you should just buy a new one ^^;

Heyhey! I had the same exact problem, except mine turned green. I had the same problem with my old monitor, and i bought a new monitor, and it had the SAME problem. That was because i was using the same cable as the one for my old monitor [too lazy to change :D] Anyway, when the same problem occurred again, i freaked out and came to this page and tried out 'germinate...'s suggestion. Now i know it's the cable's problem! :D Thanks loads :D
Btw, I don't think it's a good idea to hit your monitor (:

it is your monitor for sure. did u try to hit it on the side a little bit coz it helps. the problem is that u have dust inside the monitor and i cant tell u to clean it up coz it is not easy but if u can just use a vacuum cleaner to do the job. if u cant open it then just try to use some kind of plower to clean it up.

Try moving your speakers away from the monitor, they will distort the color on the screen. If that doesn't work, you need a new monitor.

the monitor is probably slowly self-destructing and is ready to explode in your face any day now. Kidding...but seriously you probably need to replace it soon.
