Many of the crimes on that list are far worse than anything the McCanns have been shown to be guilty of.
11% of children experience sexual abuse by people known but unrelated to them.
If anti-McCanns put as much energy into tackling this as they do bashing the McCanns, the idea that they have child neglect at the top of their agenda might be believable.
Though I suspect that many of them are more interested in bashing the McCanns than anything else.
They know who they are. You will too when you read their impolite answers to this.

Think of all the bad things happening in the world.
Then think of how many posts you have devoted to each of these bad things.
I put it to you that you have your priorities all wrong.

"If the facts are ever known, I'm sure they'll be much uglier than any of you Brits would be willing to bare."
Why are you sure? You have no proof, therefore you cannot be sure of anything.
I hope for the sake of the accused that you're never asked to do jury service.

The fatal flaw in your theory is that none of it would stand up in a court of law.
Why might that be I wonder...

Because of the work I do, I often have to go to really rundown areas of my City. One thing I see time and again is Women, who are Mothers who have Overdosed. I do not know the figures, but my guess would be that there are at least 10,000's, possibly 100,000's of women in this country who barely bother or are indeed barely capable of the most basic of care for their children. The care system does not have enough places or money available to take these children into care. Also on any night, in any town or city there are young children who have run away from homes where terrible things have happened and are physically vulnerable to all sorts of dangers whilst being cold and hungry, the system again does not have the space and finance to protect these kids. Meanwhile a little gaggle of idiots on YA's insist that these children and their needs and safety be put after that of the McCann twins. They feel that money that could be used to shelter and clothe these children, as well as accommodate and remove them from immanent danger should be spent on Lawyers and other litigation fees to remove the twins, who have a sister missing and put them in the home of strangers.

I personally disagree that people are making them out to be the biggest criminals in history.
Since the case has been thrown with so much vigour into the public domain it is only natural for people to speculate, whether or not they are pro or anti McCann.
By their own admission they are guilty of child neglect, which personally I cannot understand with something so precious as a child's life potentially at stake.
If Maddy and her siblings were not left on their own none of this would now be in the public domain and Jerry and Kate would be living in obscurity with their complete family as they had been previously.
Through their mistake they have divided public opinion to which there is no right or wrong at the moment. People are free to speculate as to whether Jerry and/or Kate had anything to do with Maddy's disappearance until the truth of the matter is proved conclusively.
Assuming you are pro McCann I don't find your opinion offensive, neither do I find the opinions of the people who are anti McCann offensive.
All we can do is learn from their initial mistake and not leave our children unattended because on one occassion, however slim the chances this same situation could happen again.
I wait for the truth to come out either way, this is what Maddy deserves more than anything.
Needless to say until the situation is resolved I would not use J+K to baby-sit unless I had a nanny-cam installed.

I think the argument put up as a defence by the Pros that if the 'Anti' put their efforts into doing this or that is nonsense quite frankly as it works both ways - we could say that we ALL do this or that, but we don't live in that type of world. We all do different things good, bad and indifferent. The worst is that assumptions are made about people just on a few words posted on a debate forum. I have received the most obscene abuse just for daring to ask a question about the McCanns, as there are those who use accusations as censorship.

Does anyone remember the Scott Peterson case in California? (Where he murdered his prgnant wife because he was mor interested in a new girlfriend). Remember his relentless effort to DIVERT the blame towards an 'occult foetus-snatching' theory, away from his own guilt? This was a campaign, not dissimilar to the McCanns' media campaign to divert blame to an outside perpetrator,
Look, they didn't murder Maddie; that's obvious. There was an accident. Imagine discovering this accident, (or having perpetrated it out of rage, impatience, or under the influence of alcohol, or all of the above).
From that moment on, both of their careers were finished for good. No more income, their practitioner's licence revoked, ...their family finished for ever. Whatever the moment's mistake, they'd better make it sound like somebody else did this......(Bad enough having left a brood of young kids alone, while they were out enjoying the holiday fun with other adults).
THEY HAD TO FIX THIS ACCIDENT!
I lived in Ibiza, Spain, for 10 years. What is very evident to me is that, in this type of 'Mediterranean' type holiday environment, young kids are taken out to dinner with their parents, and the establishments encourage this and everybody seems to enjoy, or at least tolerate this. This is the norm, and I'm sure it's not any different in Portugal.
So, you have the choice: Take them with you, or have someone look after them.
Another thing: Maddie could have been mad as hell when her parents got back, (enebriated and jolly?), and she had no fun while being left to supervise the younger ones. I mean, what fun is that? She could have been pissed-off.
Or, she had an accident on her own.....but it would still have been the fault of the parents for having neglected the young children, alone and unsupervised in a rented room.
Whatever happened had to be denied and covered up.
The decision they made that night was irreversible.
In Scott Peterson's case, and that of O.J. Simpson's, alot of effort and propaganda was expended to set the sniffers off in another direction from that of the truth.....that which really happened.
I believe the same amount of effort is being expended here.
And, imagine, for a long time, I was under their spell of sympathy for their plight. But no more. My 6th sense takes over, like it did with the other cases above mentioned.
Now common sense and intuition kick in, and I feel both a profound remorse for this family, and, at the same time a sense of shame at their behaviour and the decisions they obviously made at the expense of their daughter's memory.
The crime, here, is lying....spinning a yarn that is supposedly to get you out of trouble for a crime that you have commited.
Admit it, and move on! Deal with the consequences, as we all have to do in our lives when we make a bad decision which impacts the life of another human being.

Absolutely, but they're having so much fun aren't they?.
Some of these accusers really do feel that the McCanns neglected their children, and therefore are responsible for Madeleine's disappearance
Some hate the McCanns and what they stand for (education, earnings, the drive and intelligence to start up the campaign to find their daughter) and want to see them suffer more - it's a class thing.
Some believe everything they read in the papers, the conspiracy theories on the internet (which have fed off the rubbish in the papers and turn them into twisted facts). The Mirror Forum is a good example - if you've ever seen this, it's frightening.
Some are influenced by all of the above, and some are just sick.
They all share the same lack of compassion for Madeleine's parents.
I believe they shouldn't have left their children alone, but as a parent I can begin to imagine their pain.
The ability to feel compassion is what makes us human.

I see most McCann supporters do miss one valid point, if they were "good people" or "good parents" they would have never ever left their toddlers unattended to go out and have a bite to eat! Asleep or not either way its wrong small children are not capable of taking care of theirselves. What if one had woke up and got a hold of some dangerious object like a knife or sissors and were playing with them. What if one of the babies put something in their mouths and swallowed it and choked on something. What if they developed a fever that was high and no one was there to help them...They are responsible for their daughter be abducted weither they did it or not they were not there to protect her when they should have been they are guilty!

The biggest crI'me they are now paying for is LEAVING a child alone, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, should any parent even contemplate it, im not anti McCanns,i just find this act unforgivable as a mother, yes i agree there are people who have committed worse crI'mes yet look into the background at all the other stuff involved with them and im not surprised people feel the way they do.

it wont stop people are enjoying bashing the mccanns too much, maybe they feel better about their own sad lives when they can sit back in judgement, and pronounce guilt without knowing as yet where the child is.God forbid the parents are responsible for her death,i will retract everything i have said in their defence.if the parents are proved innocent, will all the antis do the same? we do not know as yet, cant we wait and see?

To begin with most people were on the McCanns' side (if indeed you feel you have to take sides). I just think that it's been overkill, not a day goes past without some non-story being in the papers and I just think people have got fed up with it all.
And to top it all the McCanns are now paying top PR people to carve out a sympathy campaign for them.

who is saying that they are the biggest criminals in history? what they did was not right, it was neglect, and as a result, their child is missing. the fact that they have not and probably will not admit to any fault is what the really irritating part is. they refuse to take any responsibility for what happened and instead choose to blame the alleged "abductor" and the pj for making such a mess of the investigation when they were the ones who allowed 20 people to trapse through the room.
Forgods sake, Gerry even said he went back into the room to do his "checking" and thought the abductor was in the room at the time. Some parent!! he thinks there is an abductor in the same room as his children and what does he do? strolls back out, and continues his dinner some 500 yards away.
apologies if this reply was not up to your standard of politeness!!!
Edit: em, what? and who are you to say my priorities are wrong? I am interested in this case, therefore I obviously will prioritise posting about it. That's not to say I don't take any interest in all the other things happening in the world.
Edit: I'm anti mccann and I don't agree with Theo. I think they are an untrustworthy suspicious pair of liars. I'll wait for further evidence against them before referring to them as scum.
edit: monkey, to add to your point. They didn't even have to pay. the service was free and provided by the same people who looked after the kids in the day. they had no reasonable excuse to leave them on their own
edit: kevin, i gave you a thumbs down. posters on both sides try to feed their egos. and the way they have been treated on here? are you referring to the several ligitimate questions that are asked? you know, the ones that the McCanns refuse to answer? the way they treated the people who donated to the fund was discusting...MORTGAGE PAYMENTS? WTF? taking donations to pay for their house. the way they took advantage of the Pope "oh pray for our daughter" when other RESPONSIBLE parents never even so much as got a picture in the paper. had they been responsible enough to look after their child, maddie would not be missing.
