A little background; My parents are Muslim, am an Indian. Dunno whether it's a boy or a girl. The name should be short and easily spell able.

Thanks

What do you consider religious? For example Thomas was used in the Bible but its not necessarily regarded as a strictly religious name. Also, are you thinking of any ethnicity? An American name, European, Muslim, Chinese, etc? Do you want it to mean anything in particular? I think you need to be a bit more specific and positive about what you want instead of just saying "non-religious". Long name, short name? Girl, boy? Trendy, old-fashioned?

Well, rather than suggest specific names, I will start by mentioning the Scandinavian tradition (Norwegian especially) of naming children after things in nature. They celebrate animals we find too savage (Bjorn = bear; Arne = eagle), but they also name children after flowers, hills, rivers, etc.

I will post below the URL to a wonderful search site for baby's names. I have set it to list "star" names for girls (my grandmother's name was one of these: Estella). You can switch the gender and/or enter another category. Then search the name itself to find if it has any hidden religious significance.

I hope this will kick-start an exciting search for you!

P.S. Several names people have suggested actually do have religious significance but the posters apparently don't know this. Again, check out the origins of the names you are considering and you can easily avoid those with religious origins or associations.
