because they placed to much trust in some one who said the right things and came from the same place as them

just more misplaced trust

Because Machine politicians offered them small bribes, such as a free turkey on thanksgiving, or money, and much like the democrats, the party machine made sure every one of their supporters showed up to vote, sometimes forcefully.
