Many, many things. I could write a book. LOL! But one thing that comes to mind is that he taught me to always be very aware of my surroundings. I was very naive when I met my husband. In some ways, I thought that the world was "peaches -n- cream", so to speak. But he had lived most of his teenage life on the mean streets, so he was forced to notice the teeniest things being out of the ordinary. It was a matter of survival. Like, for example, if the nightly hookers were suddenly nowhere to be found. That meant something was definitely going down. I wasn't totally stupid. After all, I didn't grow up in a "nicey nice" neighborhood. But I was no where close to having been where he has been and having experienced what he has experienced. Believe it or not, as silly as it may sound, his teaching me to be keenly aware of my surroundings has saved me from danger. Had I not taken notice of certain changes in my environment, it's highly possible that I would have been hurt.

I would say that my attitude improved a bit. Not that he's responsible for my self esteem or anything, but I never met anyone who believed in me as much as he does. That's really a source of strength, and a great reason to dump all the excuses for not accomplishing things I'd like to.

Yes I had a hair trigger temper and I got in serious fights regularly, would hollar and throw things and generally act just like my dad. She only had to say it once, but it got through... that I clean up my act, or she was gone.

I have learned that I like who I am and if my man is going to be with me he had better not expect me to give up who I am, Cause the only real addictions I have are coffee, chocolate ice cream and laughter. I'll give up the man first.
