Well you can try cleaning it with a special CD lens cleaner - also take he cover off the PC (if it's a desk top) and check the connections are firmly in place. But really, CD-ROMS are so cheap - it's probably better just to get a new one - or maybe a DVD drive instead.

Did you configure the jumper on your CDcontinual incorrectly? considering which you in ordinary terms switched each little thing over and all of it of sudden appeared, that would desire to be the 1st component to ascertain. There could be a transportable jumper in the back of thecontinual that switches between grasp, SLAVE, and CABLE elect modes. ensure that it somewhat is in the best place (grasp if it is the solecontinual on the IDE cable, SLAVE if there is already a grasp on the comparable cable, or CABLE elect if all your different drives are already set to that. next circulate into your BIOS Setup application (till now abode windows boots, often by utilising conserving down Del, yet differs between manufacturers), and spot if your CD is detected in BIOS. no count number if it isn't any longer, attempt Autodetecting the drives. If it shows in BIOS, yet no longer in abode windows, there's a trojan horse in abode windows (some variations) which will reason a CDcontinual no longer ot sign up, yet that would desire to be one huge accident if all of it of sudden appeared in simple terms once you switched situations.
