A country created by the exploits of Teddy Roosevelt. Columbia didn't want to make a canal so we "assisted" the people of the Isthmus into being independent. Thus the canal went through as planned with a little help from the great white fleet explaining to Columbia the difference between sovereignty and thinking you have sovereignty (a big Navy). Panama stands for the Isthmus that connects two parts of America. "Pan" I thinks means something like to span. And "ama" is a short for (Am)eric(a).
