Check out the biographies of Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson. Both of them are amazing actors, and I thought the books gave a good look at their off-camera/stage selves. Not that I really know them, but still . . .

The biography of stars will probablty touch upon the real life of the non star as they entered the business.
The ordinary actor spends most of his time trying to find work. contracts are sporadic and for much smaller roles than he wants. he works at some awful job to support his acting, for there are many expenses, classes, mailings, printing, photography, union dues. He struggles for years to get recognized for his ability and to get on casting directors' wish lists for casts. He sacrifices much that ordinary folk take for granted, home and family for example. It is a tough existence.
