I'm on the Eastern Seaboard of the US and have no idea what semi-formal dress is here compared to Europe. I've been invited to a semi-formal dinner with my husbands work colleagues and am not sure how much to dress up or down.
I was thinking a sleeveless cerise linen shift dress with a turquoise shawl and shoes with jewelery to match the shawl and shoes. This would be fine in Europe but will it be OK in the US?

I think it would be. Semi-formal dresses often are simple in design, but are made of supple/high quality material. It shouldn't have designs on it because that's too decorative.

your outfit sounds wonderful. The only comment I would give you is that linen is usually thought of more as a daytime fabric than an evening fabric. but the overall style you picked is perfect. i usually do a knee length cocktail dress and heels.

Boy that is a tough one. But I would take it to mean this. No tux but wear a suite. Wear a nice dress or those combination things.
