It depends on what form of female circumcision you mean.
There's 'trimming' around the clitoris to expose it more and make it more sensitive . This is sometimes done because it is believed to be removing the 'masculine' bit of the girl, in the same way that foreskins used to be seen as 'feminine'. It's common in Egypt.
Then there's the totally barbaric hacking of the female sexual organs you see in sub Saharan Africa, which also includes infibulation, or stitching up the vagina. This is done so that women won't enjoy sex and be unfaithful.

For many of the same reasons that male circumcision is imposed on boys.
Some believe it's cleaner, more attractive, prevents infections and makes a girl turn into a woman.
Others believe it controls women's libido, much in the same way it was believed that circumcision would curb male masturbation.
It's the exertion of control over a child's body by adults. Contrary to popular belief, it is not only men who perpetuate female circumcision. Many circumcised women insist on having their daughters circumcised.
ALSO: Many people incorrectly believe that once a woman is circumcised, she can no longer enjoy sex. This is NOT true. There was a survey done in Sudan where they interviewed circ'd women and many said that they not only enjoyed sex, but ORGASMED.

It is done so the female doesn't get any enjoyment from the sex act.
Women are there to give pleasure to their husbands, and to give birth to children, not to recieve pleasure from sex, if they enjoy it they could start looking for more outside of their marriage.
Sounds fair enough to me???? (that bit was not to be taken seriously) The rest is true.

It's the action of an insecure man to establish control over a woman. Like a chastity belt. But worse.

In some third world countries they think a woman might become promiscuous if she enjoys the sex too much. If you ask me, alot of them Muslims must have sudo-sexual penis envy!

If you know the answer - why are you asking it? To feel superior to others? Well done, how big of you.
