No. During the filiming of Hatari Red Buttons, a somewhat diminutive actor said that 'the Duke' hid behind him when a Rhino was charging the vehicle and everyone got a big laugh out of that. Plus a lot of veterans do not like him because he always was portrayed a big time general or something and he never served.

No way. In real life he was an abusive alcoholic and a phony just like 99% of the other movie stars. His "man's man" roles never did appeal to me. Why do you think they are called "actors"? Now Robert Mitchum, there was a sexy beast. He never did not take himself too seriously, either.
