I'm looking to see what the average is for decorating a baby's room, I'm expecting my lil girl in Feb. And would like to start thinking of a plan and a budget to save money to do this. Thank-You.

I bought all of the furniture from Wal-Mart. I bought the Nursery In A Box set, you have to order it offline but you can have it shipped to the nearest store for free and pick it up there. It included the convertible crib, changing table, and dresser, for 200.00 which was a great price! I was scared that it would look cheap, but it dosen't at all! Then we bought a rocker/glider from Wal-Mart for 90.00! I got all basic/cheaper furniture but I got her bedding set from BABIES R US, it was one of the Wendy Bellissimo Butterfly collections for like 150.00, but that included the dust ruffle, bumper, two sheets, two valances, the blanket, and mobile. It was really a good price for being so pretty and having so much. Then I spent about 60.00 on some wall hangings from babies r us ( they r fairly cheap there for pictures and stuff ). So all together we didn't spend over 500.00 and her bedroom looks like we spent much much more!! Good luck and congragulations on your little girl!

How Much Does Nursery Cost

Mine cost around 200, maybe less. I got a baby hammock for 80, a dresser for 35, book shelves for 35, an accent rug for 30, bedding for under 60... all new. Then a used rocking chair for 10, and a used crib for 40 (crib is actually in my bedroom). My crib mattress was a gift. If you are resourceful, you can have a beautiful, unique space for your baby. My baby's nursery is Peter Pan theme, with lots of moons/clouds/stars... Its such a peaceful, warm-feeling room. Children do not have to cost a fortune, contrary to popular belief. :)

Ask the average mother what you will actually use.I think with the first baby, the nursery is more for us than the baby, and you end up not using alot of the things you set up so neatly in the nursery. This time around my list is way shorter, but Ive been where you are and its part of all the excitement =) Make a list of all the things you plan on getting, and make a shopping day to look around and price compare things.

well first of all let me just say that i am a mother of 4. 2 sets of twin girls. for maddy and kenzie i spent maybe 600 on cribs, a rocker and dressers. 150 for a glider, 200 for 2 swings, 80 for 2 chairs, 200 for 2 highchairs, and maybe 500 on clothes. with the second set i used the same cribs; as maddy and kenzie have been in beds for since they were 10 months, 200 on dressers, hand me downs from their sisters, same swings, 150 for glider, 200 on highchairs.

a nursey does not have to be extravagent. jusrt convenient. save the extravagence for toddlers. when the child is older they will use more stuff in their nursery.

i find changing tables highly inpractical. i did not want to walk from end of the house to the other with a smelly baby.

my oldest son's bedding cost $350 and his furniture cost about $1000 (crib, dresser, changing table). I spent about $100 on a swing, $20 on a bounce chair, and only god knows how much on baby clothes. Oh and I forgot the $300 dollar breast pump. The truth is I didn't use any of it other than some clothes and the changing table occasionally

Well that depends on how much you have to spend-literally you can do it inexpensive by shopping garage sales for your main items like crib, changing table, high chair. When I started my plan for a nursery-the plans started from about $600 - $3000 for the basic nursery furniture so what suggest is go out to all the retailers and see what they have to offer, go online to ebay and google things-you can sometimes find good deals online! have fun!

I splurged on Land of Nod Bedding, which isnow is a complete waste, no clue what to do now with the crib skirt and bumper and quilt. At least we got the crib and furniture from a relative (instructions, all parts, and no recall)

The things Id splurge on instead now, was a nice rocker (not glider) that can be used after.

We're doing the Fisher Price Rainforest theme. We don't know what we're having yet, but we will soon. Regardless of the gender, we're painting the walls a pastel green, and I have some little stuffed zoo themed animals I'm going to put on a shelf as decoration. I love Zanzibar. It's gender neutral, but the only reason I didn't do it was because one of my friends is using the theme, and she was due way before me!

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
