If you mean illegal: then it would be the amount of tax the government collects off of them (cigarettes have A LOT more tax than other goods). Even though their prices continue to rise because of the amount of extra taxes on them, the sales do not decrease in proportion because they are addicting, so uncle sam can keep raising the tax on them. This is the same as making alcohol illegal during Prohibition... people still drank illegally, but the government could not collect taxes on it.

they are legal. But I'm going to pretend that you meant illegeal, because that would make more sense.

Some of the cons of making ciggarettes illegal are: it would be a gross violation of individaul liberty by the government, our economy would suffer from the lack of ciggarett sales not only from the united states, but elsewhere in the wold. The companies like Phillip Morris would have to move out of the United States and we would jobs. Also, the government would lose all the tax money they collect from the ciggarett companies and the smokers.

It will never happen. Cigaretts will always be legal.

I noticed both of your questions. The pros are that the taxes are so high that if the money was used correctly our national and state debts would be much less. The cons are health issues from breathing difficulties to death.

I coulda sworn they were legal, and have been, since their invention. Maybe you can elaborate a bit and make me understand your question. God Bless you.
