Have I been asleep my whole life? Were cigarettes EVER illegal? When did this happen?

Was this during the 80's? Because that would sure explain why I missed it!!!

So I guess one "pro" would be that it decreases the surplus population? I can't think of anything else.

The pros don't make cigarettes or laws.
You meant;
What would be the benefits of making the cigarettes legal?
Which is another, in my oppinion, miscontruded statement. As said before, cigarettes are legal, if you meant making them illegal, history has shown us that prohibition on anything only creates a bigger problem, because it criminalizes something that should be left to the people's right to choose.

Cigarettes are legal. I guess the positives of them being legal are:

1) Money for companies that grow tobacco.
2) Money for companies that manufacture and sell cigarettes.
3) Out sourcing jobs in cigarette factories to other countries.
4) Allowing people to smoke and get a nicotine rush. It allows people a nice break from their day.
5) If It were illegal, it would create another illegal drug that would in turn affect crime, prison rates, etc.

Cigarettes are legal. And I guess one of the pros is only for the government that has really high taxes on them.

Cigarettes are legal. I don't think there are any pros to this.

The government can monitor the usage and discourage usage by imposing high taxes. Also the government gets a lot of money from high taxes. Plus their isn't a dangerous drug industry for cigarettes as their is for other drugs and was during Prohibition with the gangs and stuff.

cigarettes are legal in the US. Here are the pros.

They help regulate population by killing a million or so a year.

They keep the gov's pockets full of money from tax.

Thats about it. Light em up!

It balances the economy and there's jobs for people(money).

Jobs for cigarettes can actually be GOOD or BAD.

For ex, you can work for a cigarette company (bad),
or you could be a cigarette model and teach kids not
to smoke (Like they did at my school).
