I have been acting more mature, but they still tend to treat me as if I'm not as bright as them. I don't think they will ever treat me differently, since they have always seen me a certain way.

Actually be a better/more responsible person. I would think the answer to your question was pretty self-evident.

You have to believe in yourself, before other people believe in you. If you want your friends to accept that is your choice to be more responsible, because you want to better yourself. Just make that your priority, and eventually they will learn to accept it.
