How old should a girl be to go to the gynecologist?

Well im 16 and all my friends have been but i havent. Should i? But the thing is im not a virgin and my mom does not know that. Will they tell her if i do go?

The others answers were right on. It is usually by age 18 or when you become sexually active, whichever is first.

A doctor can't tell if you are a virgin or not (unless you tell them).

You should go.

Btw - Even if you haven't told your parents you aren't a virgin anymore they probably know. They aren't stupid. You'd be surprised at the things they are aware of and know about (they were kids once too - when do you think your Mom lost her virginity? To your dad on their wedding night? ha ha ha).

I hope that my response to my daughter would be applauding her for taking care of her health and wanting to do the right thing.

The general rule is to go when you've become sexually active, around age 18, or if there is a concern.

You could go to a clinic (like Planned Parenthood) or to your regular doctor's office. I'm pretty sure they can't legally tell your mom that you've even made an appointment, but the age for that depends on where you live. Where I live, 15 year olds can take charge of their medical needs without their parents knowing anything.

An alternative is just telling your mom you think you should get a checkup/pap smear. If she wants reasons, you could cite your friends going, health class, etc. When you do go, your mom doesn't have to be in the room with you and the doctor can't tell her you're not a virgin.

You should see a gyno when you start having sex or turn 18. If you don't want your mom to know, go to planned parenthood or similar, it's cheap, sometimes free, and extremely confidential.
