F(0) = 1
F(1) = 5

He has to find the "rule" the following table
0 1 +4=5
1 5 +4=9
2 9 +4=13
3 13 +4=17
4 17 +4=21
5 21
+1 +4

In the table,
0 1
1 5
2 9
3 13
4 17
5 21
notice that every time x goes up by 1, y goes up by 4, so the equation is almost
y = 4x
but
4(0) = 0, not 1, so we add 1 to the rule:
y = 4x + 1.

OK
0 1 (4x0 +1)
1 5 (4x1 +1)
2 9 (4x2 +1)
3 13 (4x3 +1)
4 17 (4x4 +1)
5 21 (4x5 +1)
So the rule is the number (x) times4 +1
So 6 would be 4x6 +1 = 25
6 25
7 29
8 33
9 37
Hope that helps.

well for the first one, you see a comon difference between the y's, the 2nd row. the difference remains 4 therefore m=4. m is trhe slope u find the slope by first subtracting 2 ys(y1 and y2) and divide this by the difference between x1 and x2. now that u no y=4x+b, u need to find b, so input a value pair for x and y. for example, 0 and 1. so 1=0(4)+b,b=1. so the generakl rule is y=4x+1. using the same metrhod to solve the others, u find out:
for the 2nd one, y=x-7, and the last one is y=3x. remember, y=mx+b is useful for any equation that has a constant difference between ys.

wow, parents cant even do students work anymore? then why do they make it so hard?!? ah well, to be honest im only in grade 9 so, either that is one hard school, or its a higher grade than me. :)
actually, i dont even know what a "rule" is, in math terms
wait a second, why arent my parents doing my work?!?
my Dad makes me look like an idiot when i bring my math to him, escpecially that time i screwed the whole equation because i forgot to make a number negative =/
i think the student should do the work, pehaps with help, but he should be there.
sorry if i am one of those people that seem to type a lot without being any help. to be honest i am hesitating as to whether or not i should even post this.
Have a LoVeLy day :D
