Not as long as Randy Johnson is still playing. He doesn't want to lose #2 in the all time strikeout list. When Clemens came back in the middle of the 2007 season, he has traded #2 on the strikeout list with Randy Johnson. It could have been a battle like the battle for the all time strikeout list between Steve Carlton and Nolan Ryan from 1982-1984, but Johnson injured his back. So as long as Johnson is still pitching, you will likely see Clemens still hanging around as well. Think about it, if you were Clemens, wouldn't you want to stay #2 on the strikeout list? You can't really blame Clemens in that case. Also, there is a saying in sports, "Play until they don't want to play you anymore".

He's got nothing left to prove except how far he can go.

Ryan pitched in 27 seasons. Clemens is at 24.

He's got tiny but real chances at 5000 strikeouts and 400 wins, though I don't think either one is very magnetic to him. Perhaps reaching 374 wins, finishing third all-time is appealing.

But he does have a chance at something only two other major leaguers have ever done...

...he could play in a game alongside his son. Only Ken Griffey Sr. and Tim Raines Sr. can say they've done that.

And I do think that would have deep appeal for the Rocket.

We'll see. He keeps his own counsel.

I think he will. He didnt have the kind of year that he wanted the last time out and he knows that its only going to get harder to stay at the level he has known. He has tons of money, his kids are important to him, and he knows there is nothing worse than a grerat that hangs on too long. He can still pitch and have moderate success..but no one wiht his career wants to go out a .500 pitcher and an ERA over 4. I think he calls it a day

For the love of the game...oy...hasn't Kevin Costner covered that subject in about 312 movies by now. :-x

Clemens does love the game, and man, he'll be in hog heaven next year after the Yankees give him a month at a prorated $120 million next year, too.

He "retires" every year. The real question is will he un-retire yet again? And I say no--I think he'll decide to go home and rest finally.
