I have been a pharmacist for 21 years. There are things I like and things I don't like. I have been thinking about pharmacy a lot lately because I want my son to go to college and get a good education.

Pharmacy is a good profession with great working conditions. I am very proud of my education. I learned to think critically and I know math and science. I am a problem solver.

It is competitive. You must get good grades and love to challenge yourself with technical problems.

Six years. Two years pre-pharmacy, then you go to a pharmacy school. Many applicants have a bachelor's degree before pharmacy for a total of eight years... but no residency if you don't want to have a pure clinical hospital job.

Then you can rake it in!

But don't make a half-baked decision. Sit down and reflect on this for the next several weeks. Evaluate your true aptitude and decide what you really want in life.

I remember the kids who said, "Gee, I don't know if I want to be a doctor, lawyer, or an artist." Those people went to dental assistant school or work at 7-11...

If you focus, you can get a good match with your potential.

Also, just do your pre-pharmacy at a decent university. Your grades will be the most important thing. When you are ready to apply to pharmacy school, you can choose one based on your location and personal preferences. Or you may be lucky to get into any at all. I know a couple of people who did not get in. One gave up and is a pharmacy tech, and the other went into nursing.
