Science is becoming unreliable because it is being used by opposing political forces (consrvatives and liberals) for their own tactical purposes. For example, when Repulicans are in power, they try to manipulate statistics to show that the economy is doing well. They also try to deny the fact that global warming exists. History is also manipulated. Irrespective of real facts, Republicans praise all the conservative presidents and historical figures and Democrats do the opposite. How to preserve the objectivity of science? Is it at all possible?

Science has always been politicized and most likely will always be. THis happens because most people are not knowledgeable about science and have to rely on other people to tell them what scientific research means. Science really is not objective, although it attempts to be as near as possible to it. However, all data must be interpretated and conclusions must be drawn. Unfortunately, not all research methods are accurate and can lead to results that are not actually correct. Sometimes research is vague and the conclusions drawn are different between scientists (see human effect on global warming). Peer review is still the best method for maintaining the accuracy of scientific studies.

Science as a body of thinking started off as rich men with time on their hands to think about all these things, and the money to buy or make the equipment to do it. These also happened to be the same type of men who entered politics.

It has changed since then, but only to become even more politicized in a different way. Since most research done today is done using taxpayer's money, how the money will be spent is decided by (you guessed it) politics. So no stem cell research as long as the Right holds power, because poor women will abort their babies as a source for stem cells, if they are paid for it. And the Right hates abortion. They also seem to hate quadroplegics as well, since they are some of the people this could help.

Companies do research to make money, but again, the ability for, say, a pharmaceutical company to get a drug okayed, is regulated by the government and is therefore subject to politics.

Can't get away from it these days.

You can't ,
Even science itself, underling consist of politics to get what they believe as the correct one,
the reason for this is very simple we know nothing, scientist make theory to explain outcome if it seems to fit we will take that for granted that is if somebody else does not come with another solution to let the result fit.
In those case which often happens you hear different theory and everybody tries to sell there theory ,
furthermore the arguments (letter) of the last person also are very valid

It's impossible, and besides, it would take all the fun out of it.

If you go back and read what you wrote, you even politicised your question. i.e. ("For example, when Repulicans are in power, they try to manipulate statistics to show that the economy is doing well. They also try to deny the fact that global warming exists". )

Become scientifically informed. Then politicians will have a harder time skewing scientific results in there favor. Science itself is not unreliable, as it is the best method we have at approximating the truth, but an uninformed public can aways be sold " a bill of goods. "
