Absolute shock

3. As the events began to unfold and the identity of the perpetrators emerged, did your attitude towards Muslims change?
Towards all Muslims no because I grew up in The Gulf with a lot of Muslim friends, but towards Muslim extremist thinkers and groups, yes.

No. The media has always been biased, never telling the whole truth, this was true even before Sept. 11.

I believe it is being used as an excuse for violence by the some.

In many cases yes.

No

Sometimes yes, by focusing only on the actions of the extremist groups and labeling all Muslims accordingly.

12. Do you believe Islam is a misunderstood religion in North America?
Yes, for 2 reasons. One, people in North America simply don’t understand the religion, but also because of the way it is being portrayed by the extremist groups.

4. Radio (various AM and FM stations); the internet, wherever.
5. Yes, though I was critical before, I'm more critical now.
6. First the Muslims I've known in the US, then the extremist Muslims I've read about.
7. Some Muslims do; many Muslims don't.
8. No, but a lot of Muslims are violent; not most of them I don't think.
9. Women are oppressed in many predominantly Muslim countries, but all the women there are oppressed, not just Muslims; Muslim women in the US aren't oppressed.
10. I don't know that they get a "bad" rap, since both positive and negative images of Muslims are shown; but what we see in the media is shallow and limited, probably not overly accurate.
11. I believe Islam is not well understood in North America, therefore yes, it is misunderstood.
