there's only one hope for depression. That is an effective anti depressant medication. Depression comes from a checmical imbalance in the neurotransmitters and the brain and nothing in the world will alleviate unless you compensate for it. The right medication will do it. When you're depressed, you're unable to interact with a therapist by talking or be with or around anyone so talk therapy won't work. Being around people is a waste because the loss of interest makes it difficult to tolerate company and again, verbal interaction. You will have no desire for pets or taking care of animals as it's too labor intensive, too complex and your mind can't handle it. Excercise requires motivation which you have none. Until you can compensate for the chemical imbalance that's causing the depression and anxiety, none of these suggestions are useful.. Once you regain your sense of motivation and desire to do things, only then can any interaction or activity possibly help feel good.. There are ssri's, snri's mao inhibitors and trycyclic anti depressants. Some work better than others depending on the individdual. It is frustrating until you find one that works well with tolerable side effects. If none of these are ever an option, try ect (shock therapy)l

Namaste. I find that anxiety is a symptom of an in balance in a person's life.
A good place to start is becoming aware of our own anxiety. Is it a person that makes us feel it? A work environment? Too many commitments? Self doubt? Self aware ness.
I use Reiki to calm and soothe my frazzled nerves!
Breathing conciously is another effective tool. For example ~ I take a massive deep breath, all the way down to my tummy, then breathe it out slowly, imagining all my worries going with it. Repeat several times. I then observe how I feel.

Try either acupuncture or homeopathy. I was also diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder following a traumatic event and have had excellent results with homeopathy. You must find a good homeopath though.
For on-the-spot treatment, I found Bach Flower Rescue Remedy to be helpful. You can get it at any chemist.
Good luck.

I've have had a Generalized anxiety Disorder for years. The only natural treatment that I've ever heard of was a Vitamin B supplement. But, if you have a severe chronic disorder like I do - forget about it.
The only thing that helps is Alprazolam (aka Xanax.) It is addictive -but- is without a doubt, the most effective manage ment medication available for severe disorders.

I've had major anxiety attacks for many many years. It used to drive me nuts, because doctors would try to put me on these medicines with big long names that scared me half to death. I've always been a strong believer in natural cures, so I decided to try my own remedies. I covered myself in lavender, mainly trying to use scents and herbs and things like that to counteract it. Nothing worked until I discovered a type of chammomile in a tablet form. They work well to put you to sleep if you take four of them, but two works extremely well as a relaxant. I carry those around with me all of the time, since you can't get in trouble for it at school, since it's not a prescription drug, and whenver I feel anxious, I just pop two of those in my mouth, chew them up, and whithin just about 15 minutes I feel so much calmer.

be careful of st johns wart it actually triggers a protein that can cause you to excrete some medicines faster so if you are on any prescription drugs that you have to take, you will want to be mindful of that possible interaction. Kava Kava worked wonders for me, but you can't get it in north america anymore. When I couldn't get kava kava, I started taking valerian root and that helped me out quite a bit. it is often used as a herbal sleep aid but it helped me out during the day too.

I really like valerian, which is some times called sleep easy. My hubby swears by the Bach flower drops, its called Bach rescue remedy. It is in a yellow box and comes as drops that you put on your tongue or drink in water, it also comes as a lozenge. He also thinks that the Brauer Stress spray is quite good. He suffers from fairly severe anxiety at time and the Bach seems to really help him, you get it from a pharmacy.
Good luck!

The main organs affected by stress are the adrenal glands, and both licorice root and Siberian Ginseng help balance them. Rhodiola Rosea has been extensively used for mental stress as it helps calm the part of the brain that filters excessive mental stimulus. St John’s Wort is well known for its benefits on depression and has been extensively studied in scientific literature.

Diet. Eat whole raw foods and organic foods. Look into macrobiotic diets. Stay away from processed foods! Don't eat anything that has an ingredient you don't know how to pronounce. Drink plenty of water - in fact, drink your weight in ounces every day!! Breathe deeply and exercize daily.
