Why is that movie so hated? Please explain it to me. Don't say things like "cause it sucked" and "will smith is gay" or i'm gonna have to kick your ***....=]. but seriously, why doesn't anyone like it?

1) We were expecting the sophistication of the series and got a pale facsimilie.

2) The chemistry between Conrad and MArtin was non-existant between Smith and Kline

3) The movie was too top-heavy with special effects and light on plot.

4) They offers james Conrad a chance to play President grant, but when he read the script, he turned it down, as he said what made the series so much fun and exciting was absent from the film.

5) Please note that very few TV shows have made it as successful movies (Underdog, Beverly Hillbillies, Flipper, Starsky and Hutch, Miami Vice, Dukes of Hazzard). Certainly one thriving example was Star trek, but "ST1" was a bit of a dud

It was absolutely horrible! It was an embarrassment for all involved I would imagine, except perhaps for Will Smith, who seemed to be reveling in it. Why was it awful and so hated?

There is no way that he could have been a government agent in that time period. Also, when he did that beating on the woman's breasts... That was truly tacky, especially his babbling on about signals and such. Bai Ling was treated so nastily that I felt dreadfully sorry for her.

If Kevin Kline couldn't save a film and if M. Emmet Walsh couldn't lighten the mood, you know you have serious troubles.

It's as if they were relying on us to be impressed by the giant mechanical spider, which was rather a pitiful effect. Everything is pitiful about this movie that supposedly is based on the popular TV series. Nothing in this film could have reminded any fan about that series. Jim and Artemus were NOT buffoons stumbling about. The series had a light touch, with occasional humor. This film was simply horrendous from beginning to end.

And, when will a certain actor stop trying to convince the audience that he is~well~endowed? He seems to need those lines in practically every script.

There is nothing in this film that I or any of my friends and acquaintances liked, not even Kline's performance. That's really sad that not one of us could say, "Oh! This was a good part!" We all agreed that we felt sorry for the characters.

How about this?
"Robert Conrad was initially approached by Barry Sonnenfeld to make a cameo appearance as President Ulysses Simpson Grant. He turned down the offer after reading the script due to what he felt was its poor quality and lack of respect for the original series it was based on."

How right he was to refuse to connect himself to this failure of a film.

Many people must have detested this film. Read this, also from IMDB:
"When this film swept the 20th Annual Razzie Awards, 'winning' 5 statuettes including Worst Picture, Robert Conrad, who played James West in the original 1960s TV series, accepted three of the awards in person as his way of expressing his low opinion of what had been done with his source material." YEA, Robert!

Here are the other Razzie wins:
"To the surprise of no one unfortunate enough to have seen it, the Most-RAZZed movie of 1999 turned out to be WILD WILD WEST. A wretched remake of the mid-60s TV hit as a behemothly over-budget, special-effects-laden box office bomb, WEST "won" five RAZZIES, including not only Worst Picture of The Year but also Worst Director ("Berry" Sonnenfeld), Worst Screenplay, Worst Song (for its rap-style title tune) and Worst Screen Couple for co-stars Kevin Kline and Will Smith, who Roger Ebert said had "so little screen chemistry they seem to be acting in front of rear screen projections of each other!"

See? I'm far from alone in how I feel about this movie. I'm a film buff, and I take movies very seriously~as if you couldn't tell.

Because people are haters. their are some movies that are seriously slept on. Like for whatever reason. I don't know why I think it's all about timing. That's why I never pay attention to what people say about movies I make my own decision about them. Do you know how much you'd miss out on if you let people say they don't like something affect your choice. Same thing applies to music they say the CD sucked. what that means is they didn't like it. Not that it isn't any good.

I liked it too. It wasn't anything of the quality of Blazing Saddles but it was a good funny movie.
