They hate each other.
Of course it results in terrible vote splitting ;)
True story:
My cousin worked on contract for the provincial government in ontario when the NDP were in power. There was a bar some of them would go to where some communist party guys also hung out. Well the NDPers were kind of depressed about how they had to abandon all their ridiculous plans and implement semi-reasonable things to the point that the unions hated them, and how they would not be in power again for ... many decades. The communist guys were laughing at them. One of the NDP guys snapped and said 'its not like you guys are close to winning an election'. The communist guy replied 'ahh, but we only have to win _once_.' Classic.
