I just moved to Miami Fl and was unable to vote in the election when Gov. Crist was elected, replacing Dubya's brother. Looking at city and county local politics, I have seen a lot of misappropriation of public funds and some politicians are facing graft and corruption charges. The FBI is investigating some land development and public transportation deals that have gone bad, but in the meantime, property taxes are being raised again to offset the loss. I doubt we'll get a refund.
At the federal level, I don't think it is the system of Government that is broken. Voter apathy has taken a toll because people either don't care or do not believe that their vote does count, allowing them to be hoodwinked by PAC'S and special interest groups.
If the guilty parties can be brought to justice and the voting public get off involved, it can be repaired, and quickly.
The flag-wavers who think that this is the best just because it is America need to get off their asses and take a look at what needs to be done to keep it the best. The nay-sayers who bad talk everything need to stop whining and start moving.
It is falling apart, but John Q. Public has only himself to blame.

In some ways yes, but I'd say more that the actual Government people are the broken ones, because if you look at simply the system it is pretty solid, we just have people who screw it up.

No I do not think the US system of government is broken. What's broken is the moral fiber of people that take advantage of our system. Those that lie, cheat, and steal along with the frivolous lawsuits that overtake common sense. If you dislike this system of government, try living under a dictatorship.

We the people could hold the American government to a higher standard if we cared enough. Enough to be better informed and more involved.
We need to know how money is influencing our system.
How we are being kept in the dark and lied to by our government.
How we are being manipulated through our fears and insecurities.

I don't think it's broken, but it is breaking. Capitalism has been the reigning socio-economic system for a very long time so it is only natural that it's beginning to dwindle down. Like any other power structure (Rome, Egypt, Britain) it is only a matter of time before America seizes to be the top dog in the world. Besides, capitalism really is its own death dealer, with a system concerned only with profit (such as gov't giving corps. the right to life, liberty and happiness by claiming them as a person) and not the welfare of its people, as well as a dog-eat-dog political structure, it's not long before it fails.

It is certainly in need of a great deal of repairs. For instance, the solution to the high price of gasoline: Your situation will not be made better by starting a War in the Middle East where most of the oil is. The first thing we need to do is to rid ourselves of the Republicans, and their "rich boy" way of thinking.

No and it's the best system there is and has been working for a great long time although some would like to change it for selfish reasons to suit their personal needs. I love America and I thank God that I am an American and wouldn't want it any other way.
