You'd think that a business that is run by homosexuals would be more openminded, but they're just as homophobic as everyone else.

The reason I say this is because my friend is a male model and he is gay. I went with him to an open call at an agency a while back. He literally looks like he stepped out of the pages of GQ magazine. He's a very goodlooking guy, has the perfect proportions for a male model, good fashion sense, etc.

So when it was his turn to go meet with the agency, they loved him! They loved his portfolio, his whole look..the only problem was they thought he gave off a gay vibe. They made no secret of it...they told him upfront that he was too gay. Keep in mind the people that were saying this were gay themselves. Needless to say, they never called him back. I also noticed that the models that seemed to be gay were in and out of there pretty quick. They weren't even given a fair chance!

I depise homophobes...

This is NOT homophobia, it is business, and models know they are in the business to sell clothes, period! And yes, there are some very good looking guys who, by no fault of their own, gay or straight, that give off "gay vibes." These models are not going to do well in selling clothes to straight men, for the total effect is going to come across as appealing to Gays...and this is NOT what clothiers want..they need as broad a market as they can get. Your friend wants to make a living from his looks, and he has to take the lumps with the sugar...not getting that job was a lump. The next job he may go after will want his "look" and others who are just as good looking won't...fashion, like life, is not about fairness, it is about money...and money is what fashion is all about. IF it weren't, clothing would not change from year to year...lord knows we don't wear things out quickly enough to support the industry. I think if you think in terms of what that particular job needed, you will see thing in a different light. And it may be that your friend needs to butch up his look..he should take this as a hint to get further jobs, not as a turn off. A wise man listens, and if he is wise, he will have heard. Peace and love, Goldwing

Nothing homophobic about it at all!!! It is a business and they were looking for a particular "look". If he did not have that look, because he "looked" gay or any other reason, they are not going to choose him. The model needs to fit the image of the target audience and he clearly didn't do that for this job.

you have thoroughly ignored the multitude of ladies individuals who paintings interior the kind marketplace as designers, mag editors and vogue professionals. all of them favour a undeniable look and help it of their vogue spreads and designs. The waif look is, curiously, so final 300 and sixty 5 days (as they are asserting) and now no longer commonplace on the catwalks. some vogue homes additionally now enforce specific weight regulations on their fashions to be sure they do no longer seem to be offering an annorexic seem to the generic public. (This, I understand, is very good in Spain, the place a number of the greater appropriate nicely-known worldwide fashions now war to locate paintings through fact they can't meet the minimum height to weight ratio.) besides, do no longer forget approximately there is host of lady vogue designers who layout in precisely the kind you describe: Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Trelise Cooper, Mori Hanae to call some. this is not all the gay conspiracy it might look in the commencing up blush.

Hello,

This surprises me because I heard before that the fashion industry is full of gay talent and cross dressing types as well but whilst tolerant in that department they seem to be rather racist in their attitudes. A few black models such as Naomi Campbell have spoken out in this citing the lack of ethnicity at times.

Cheers,

Are you kidding me...?
Everyone in high fashion is either gay or loves gay people!
: )
Think: EVERY gay designer: Isaac Mizarahi, Versace,.... and all the fashion "gurus" like Tim Gunn, Madonna, that Top Design Show on Bravo [they are ALL gay! ; )], "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy"...
ALL gay!
: )
I despise homophobes, too!
Right there with ya!

well im a male model and i can say that this type of thing only happens if your friend is flamboyant gay guy. other models i know who are gay know they are suppose to tone it down. so if his gayness shows just a little bit, there was probably something else about your friend they didnt like.

I don't really think that is homophobic. Your friend has picked a career that is 100 percent look based. If they are looking for a masculine type to sell their product, them's the breaks.

I would never have imagined that the fashion industry of all places is homophobic! Have you ever seen that one Black guy on "America's Next Top Model?" He wouldn't be there if the industry was homophobic! Nobody's more "homo" than that guy!

the problem with him giving off a gay vibe is he will probably be selling whatever product to straight men. if a straight man thinks something looks gay they will probably not buy it
