Sure. don't we all. They cultivate the earth just as we do. What they leave behind as they move along stimulates growth in other species. It's called the food chain. They might not be the lowest on the chain but they are certainly one of the most important animals we know of. If you are asking if they eat their own poop. Possibly, but only for so long. Eventually all the nutrients would be absorbed and they would die of starvation. I don't see that happening.

No. Green plants produce their own food. Animals don't.

No, they eat decaying vegetation. However they convert it to food for other organisms, like bacteria.
