I'm not sure what you mean by "messed around with the screen saver", but try messing with the Monitor Power setting within the Screen saver properties. Click Power (within screen saver properties tab) and check the "Turn Off Monitor" portion. See if it says "never"... If so, change it to something else, 10 minutes, 1 minute, whatever. Play with that and see what happens.

Does it turn off when you don't use your mouse or keyboard? It might just be going to sleep instead of suing a screen saver. Maybe your computer's on power save mode, its broken or maybe you might have a virus?

Are you clicking standby instead of log off? If you're clicking standby, and anything disturbs the mouse/keyboard, or any settings that could potentially "wake" it, then that is why.
If you want to shut your monitor off, just press the power button on it.

your auto shut-off is not switched on. Your screen is restarting
You have to find out how to set your auto shut off on.Alternatively hold the off switch when you shutdown.Off it goes.
