Global warming is noting but an increase in the global mean temperature every year.It is caused by the increasing greenhouse effect which in turn is the result of accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere created by human activities.
The effects are increase of global mean temperature, rising sea level, changes in rainfall and drought patterns and an increase in what is known as 'extreme weather events'.

Global warming is a buildup of "greenhouse" gasses in the earths atmosphere. This traps the sun's heat in the atmosphere .and causes the earth's oceans to absorb the warmth at an exponential rate.
The history of the earth has had many rises and falls of these gasses causing ice ages and warm periods. However, in recent years, the rate of which these gasses are stored has increased DRAMATICALLY.
This is caused by burning fossil fuels, the main source of energy.
The effects are already being seen with the dramatic weather patterns. The earths ice caps are melting and warming the ocean, causing hurricanes, and surprisingly, droughts throughout the world. Eventually, and sooner than you'd think, the coastal cities will be under water and the world as you know it will be destroyed.
Really, you should just rent that Al Gore movie "inconvenient truth"

Global Warming is the increase in the temperature of the earth. The most known cause of global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases which destroy the ozone layer and thus increase the temperature. These gases are released when we burn materials such as fossil fuels and when rubbish are incinerated. There are many effects of global warming, such as the melting of the polar ice caps which lead to a rise in sea-levels. This might trigger many unfavourable conditions in climate such as floods and rapid changes in weather conditions.

Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:

"global warming effects has resulted in a increase of the average surface temperature, a decrease in snow cover and ice extent and a rise of the sea level. Moreover, global warming effects affects precipitation, cloud cover and extreme temperatures. "

Too much to answer here.
wikipedia has information, so do a lot of websites (just google 'global warming' and start reading).
