Light can be absorbed by increasing the kinetic energy of particles in the target (heat), by pushing an electron into an orbit of higher energy, or by a variety of quantum interactions. In the process of imparting its energy, the photon is annihilated (gone).

Wearing a dark shirt on a hot dark night lets you radiate more energy than a light shirt. This is related to black body radiation. A dark shirt in sunlight will absorb more energy than it radiates or reflects. That's good if you want to be hotter.

when light is absorbed it is converted into energy, and dark colors attract more light, making a dark colored shirt warmer than a light colored shirt, which reflects it
