they are called wisdom teeth because they generally arrive at a time when most individuals have gained some wisdom about life.
as you know, the exact time is different for each individual and for some individuals the wisdom teeth arrive before they are wise! For others wisdom teeth arrive well after they are "mature".
The question is, if a person doesn't get wisdom teeth - are they considered wise, or in their lack of such teeth, will they never become wise?! hmmm

My mother used to say that only people with a genetic hangover from the neaderthals grew "wisdom teeth", and that they were just called "wisdom teeth" because people were in denial of their neanderthalness.
Hilarious theory, isn't it? Well, she hasn't said it again since she grew her first wisdom teeth in her 40's!
LOL

I would say because it takes them so much longer to come through than normal teeth. They don't come in until around 17-18...but that's only statistically speaking of course =)

They teach you about pain at a time in your life when you should really start to understand the concept properly.
They arrive at about the age most people are considering marriage.

that just proves age doesn´t t necessarily mean wisdom.... I´m 25 now, and they are still growing, but mostly when i go to stay with my parents for holydays etc.,but to be honest when I go back home I feel even more stupid then before....
