In modern times, there have been no serious discussions of Canada becoming part of USA. In both The American Revolution and The War of 1812, the Americans did make a feable land grab on Canadian territory and were soundly defeated.
Lately, there has been some discussion of a confederation among USA, Canada and Mexico. There is a lot of opposition to the concept.

Every decade or so the french Canadians talk about separating from Canada. This is usually when talk of Canada joining the U.S. occurs. Then the french Canadian have a referendum and decide to stay with Canada and everybody forgets the talk about joining the U.S. .
