William is a very traditional movie meaning desire and protection originates from Germany. Alexander is a wonderful name. I hope one day to name my children either Alexander or Alexandra (depending on the gender). Meaning defending men originating from Greece, this name is very popular with both genders. I think William Alexander is a lovely name.

I like the old traditional names. William can be called Liam, Will, Willie, Bill, Billy---very flexible. Or Al or Alex.
Too many people are making up such weird names.
It's almost as if they grab a few letters out of the Scrabble game, throw them in the air, and however they land, that's what they name their kids.

Alex is a really cute name for a baby! It's cool that you get to stick with tradition and not have everyone be named the same thing (it keeps the confusion down than if you called everyone "William").

I lovveee it.
Veryyyy classy.
It's adorable that you are continuing a tradition, but I like that the tradition still allows you to pick your own name (as opposed to naming them all the same name and doing the Junior, Senior, III, etc. thing).
I love Alex, and William as well.
Good choice.

I agree with Susie Q.... what's the point? If he's going to be called Alex, then just name him Alex.... that's a ridiculous tradition.

Bad idea!!! If you are going to call him Alex then Alexander should be his first name. If both your husband and father in law go by their middle names they should know what a pain in the butt that is and how much confusion it causes. My dad went through the same trouble all his life and I agree with his take on the matter-use the first name that you are actually going to call the child. As for the names themselves I like both Alex and William.
