Over the years, I have been surprised at how the USA seldom talks about Puerto Ricans. Many Americans know little to nothing about thier history. Some say they are foreigners. With so much emphasis on illegals, they are simply forgotten. Before, it was all about Cubans and the fight over the little boy from Cuba. Many Mexicians do not considered ricans as hispanics. How ironic to think that Mexicans are the only hispanics when Spain had visited the Caribbean long before Mexico. Peurto Ricans are easier to get along with. They do clique against others like La Raza. Many ricans are pro- illegals. This is a major mistake! Mexicans are using them for ulterior motives. I live in El Paso and used to live in San Antonio, I know how they are treated. Many choose to simply blend into the Mexican community and exist. I know ricans, cubans, and dominicans who are treated like dirt in Texas. The USA wants Puerto Rico to become a State but fails to treat ricans with appropriate respect.

I think it because PR people are waffling on forming their own independent country or becoming a state. Its hard to know which way the situation is going to go.

First, US does not want PR to become a state, PR is not even an incorporated territory, not even that. It is a country with a compact of free association as a commonwealth since 1952.
Puerto Ricans are not US own hispanics since Puerto Rico is not a state of the US and it is it's own nation.

Second. You are talking about Puerto Ricans who live in the US (which are third and fourth generation of inmigrants) like if they are also a permanent minority in their own country PR) It is like talking about Irish descendants in NYC the same way you talk about Irish in Ireland. Hispanics is a definition used only in the US by the US government. Puerto Ricans in their own country are Puerto Ricans the same way Venezuelans are in Venezuela, nobody in latin america consider themselves "hispanics" since that is a racist term used only in the US.
