I was wondering if anyone would know what was wrong with my 1989 plymouth horizon? The main sparkplug going to the ignition coil is sparking right where it attaches to the coil and cause a miss in the engine.I made sure the coil was properly grounded but the sparking goes from the main post on the coil to the secondary posts which causes the miss in the engine. The coil is new but cant understand why all the sparking???Thanks Paul

THE 89 HORIZON USE THE WIRE AS THE CONTACT POINT INSIDE THE DIST CAP REMOVE THE TO SCREWS THAT HOLD THE CAP ON LOOK INSIDE THE CAP FOR WORN CONTACTS NOT JUST AT THE CENTER BUT ALL THE WIRES THEY MAY NOT BE SEATED ALL THE WAY (SHOULD LOOK LIKE A TWO PRONGED FORK INSIDE THE CAP) AND THE SPARK WILL JUMP ON THE COIL ALL SO CHECK YOUR PLUGS FOR WORM OUT ELECTRODES AGAIN CAUSING EXCESSIVE GAP CHECK TO SEE THAT THE DIST ROTORS METAL TAB HAS NOT BROKEN OFF

The voltage is looking for a short cut to the ground because the plugs are burned up. (gap burned too wide) Replace the plugs with the type called for AND very important, replace the wires at the same time.

It is getting a better ground through the rubber,or it's carbon tracking ,or there or cuts in the boots's.Change the wires out.

it would look you have a nasty cord someplace finest to the socket, or the socket itself. If it replaced into getting power the bulb would illuminate. you will evaluate leaving it till you may borrow at try gentle or meter and chase it down. One will warn others of your intentions for now.
