Hi, well this girl in my World History class is VERY religious and told me that they discovered Lucy is actually an old woman with a bone deformity who died in Africa. I being the science nut I am don't believe her but I want to know for sure so I don't go around sounding so arrogant. So please provide if a source if you can. Thanks so much!!!

You obviously know the truth about Lucy.

I've included websites for those who don't know about Lucy.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/prehistoric_life/human/human_evolution/mother_of_man1.shtml
http://www.asu.edu/clas/iho/lucy.html
http://www.archaeologyinfo.com/australopithecusafarensis.htm

There is no point getting into a discussion with this girl over it.
She appears to have a closed mind on the subject.
I do wonder, why someone with such insular views is studying World History at school.
Very little of it will agree with her church teachings.

There has been some controversy as to weather or not she has been collected from different places to come up with her current form.
The fact is that even the scientific community can't agree on just how old she is and where she fits in.
I saw a documentary a few months ago that was talking about a skull that is suppose to be older than Lucy. In that show the experts seemed to think she was a bit doggy any way.
I'm not sure what I think about the whole thing because the skull in question was found crushed and they "reconstructed" it to the form that was shown.

How about asking the girl in your history class for a source?

Lucy is Lucy. She's as old as they thought she was. There's consternation over the fact that a facsimile of her bones are being schlepped around. the fear is that the real fossilized skeleton is disintegrating.

Google it: it's recent news.

I had someone try and tell me that all the fossils were carved by an old man in China! Some people will believe anything!

I don't read anywhere that she was an old woman from Africa. But I don't put my hands on fire for the known version. I would not say she is THAT old. But REALLY old.

Creationists (people who believe God created the world) rely on their faith in God and not on science. Anthropologists (Archeologists), and Evolutionists (people who believe in the evolution of species) believe in science as proof. Whatever you believe is right, and whatever she believes is right. There is nothing wrong with sounding arrogant no matter what you believe.
