full-time at most colleges is 12 hours. most classes are 3 hours. So, 4 classes would be full time.

However, most students don't do the minimum 12 hour load - 15 hours every semester will be required to graduate on time and many students do 18 hours per semester.

That means a typical full-time load is 4-6 classes per semester and about 12-18 hours per week in class.

For insurance purposes, a full time university load is usually 12 credits. Most courses are 3 to 4 credits, depending on how much work will be involved in the course.
Most college students take around 15 credits.
At my university the max number of credits you can take is 18. I'm not sure if this is a standard across all universities or just my own.

it might vary depending on whether the school has semesters or quarters...? but at all of the schools around me, including mine, that are on semesters, full time is 12 credit hours or 4 typical courses worth 3 credits each.
