Many girls can get their periods any time. Some people have it at the same time each month. But believe it or not some people can have it at differnt times. It is common for spotting to happen 2 weeks before. As well as cramps. This ecxpecially happens if it is the first, second or third period. So dont panic it is very common.

I would guess she is experiencing ovulatory spotting and "mittelschmerz" -- aka ovulatory pain.

************************

The main symptom of mittelschmerz is a distinctive, one-sided lower abdominal pain or discomfort. Chances are you've experienced a similar pain in the past, possibly switching to the other side of your abdomen every other month or every other time you feel it. It's also possible to feel it on the same side for several months in a row. The pain occurs on the side in which you're ovulating.

The pain usually lasts a few minutes to a few hours, but it may continue for as long as a day or two. It may be sharp, or it may be a dull ache that feels like a cramp. Rarely is the pain severe.

Mittelschmerz occurs during ovulation, when the follicle ruptures and releases its egg. While the exact cause of mittelschmerz is unknown, here are possible reasons you may feel pain:

* Just before an egg is released with ovulation, follicle growth stretches the surface of your ovary, causing pain.
* Blood or fluid released from the ruptured follicle irritates the lining of your abdomen (peritoneum), leading to pain.

I recommend the book "Cycle Savvy: The Smart Teen's Guide to the Mysteries of Her Body" by Toni Weschler.

I've had my period for about 8 years now and just this month I spotted 2 weeks before my period. There's nothing wrong with it... It's just something that happens sometimes.

Is she pregnant? that could be the reason... also it could be just that her cycle is going to change.. its common knowledge that when girl hang around each other they will eventually have periods around the same time.. something about pheromones. But with all things that give cause for concern.. go to the doctor

That's from ovulation most likely, which occurs about 2 weeks before your period is due.

If she just started getting her period in the last year, then she can expect it to be unexpected.

Tell "your friend" she's probably knocked up. If the spotting was more pinkish than red, its most likely implantation bleeding.
